Summer solstice meditation for balance and cultivating our dreams

Summer can be a season of vitality, creativity and growth. Summer can be rapid change, overheated situations, and high emotions.

The difference between amazingness and misery comes from mastering summer’s fire energy.

Honestly every summer solstice I still have to remind myself what to do with its expansive, hot energy. That’s why I’m offering this anchoring, simple three-part practice.

Every year there is something more to understand. The better we get at working with summer, the easier it is to deal with life boiling over.

Get Grounded - Putting bare feet on the ground is my favorite way to get grounded. Or lying down in the grass. Slow down and notice the insects, bird song, and scents of summer.

Cultivate Gratitude - I love how solstice puts the breaks on endless expansion and light. We have enough, and it’s a great time to be grateful.

Maybe you can’t wait for local tomato season. Maybe you can’t wait for some important things to finally happen in your life. We’ve been trained to always want more and the next thing.

Gratitude liberates. Savor the fullness of this day.

Let the fire help you cook up something good with your life

Now that you’ve laid down in the grass, and swelled with gratitude, I invite you to take time to imagine your heart’s desire as though it were happening now. Imagine it with all your senses – the sound, feel, and even scent of it. As you savor that feeling, imagine calling up a friend to share how wonderful it is to inhabit your deepest longing. How might they react? Can you imagine their joy in response?

Take one more moment to breathe in that feeling, welcoming the warmth of summer solstice to quicken and illuminate your way to your heart’s desire.

The fire energy will continue to be very strong for another month. Staying hydrated and grounded will help you cultivate the most joy, healing and growth from the season.

Wishing you mastery of both summer and the fiery parts of your life.

Love,

Emily
