4 Things That Help with Major Transition
I don’t think there is any way to hide from big change this year. Private or global, forced or sought, resisted or embraced, change is here.
Here are four ideas about how to cope with it.
1. Resist the temptation to go back to how it was before.
It is a paradox: there is only the present moment AND the past is available to us within it. If we have special joys and loves we want to feel and remember, we can call them up and have them right here with us. The past is part of what makes the present. The losses and changes are also part of the present.
2. Learn how to recognize what is true for you.
If this transition is going to be a moment of growth for you, it’s highly likely you will need to shed what no longer fits. Yet this almost never happens like a quiet rainy day project of cleaning a closet. There’s chaos. Like your body has suddenly changed and you find yourselves with few or no clothes that fit.
Body truth can be the message that old clothes no longer feel right. Body truth can also be a signal we learn to recognize, telling us that some part of our life no longer fits.
Especially when routines and anchors in life have changed, we need the wisdom of body truth. Embodied practices like dance and qigong can help us develop our body truth skills.
3. Your highest soul purpose will be your guide.
This purpose question cannot be answered on the material level. Your soul came here to understand something more about love and the nature of life.
Every life situation can be a stepping stone for your souls’ quest. Every good quest story also includes moments of feeling lost or disoriented. Purpose after all is not something that gets figured out, framed and hung on a wall. It is always evolving.
4. Use the buddy system.
Especially during the vulnerabilities of chaos, change, and transformation, we need others for all manner of support.
One of my favorite ways to help others is as a qigong companion – buddy, if you will. Meeting monthly, I accompany courageous souls through the high seas of transition. This type of work can help you:
Grow confident in recognizing your own body truth
Recognize the questions your soul keeps asking so that it can guide you
Learn how to move with confidence through the ups and downs of the particulars of your life
This moment is an incredibly creative moment alongside all of the challenges. It’s a tremendous opportunity to build the life and world you want. If you had all the support and clarity of vision you needed, what would you do?
Love,
Emily
