Confidence in Confidence

I’m forwarding to you a delightful message from the bathroom mirror at Signature Arts Building:

“That confidence looks really nice on you.”

I always smile in a mixture of relief and delight when I see it.

I love the confidence it has in my confidence – suggesting that even if I can’t feel my confidence, the voice in the mirror is recognizing it.

The message always reminds me to look for the confidence. It interrupts the habit to check oneself for all the things that might be frizzy, weary, zitty, or saggy.

At the end of every dance class, I always lead the group in a reflection similar to the prompt on the mirror. We pause and just allow ourselves to shine. Two magical things happen at the same time:

  • We get to behold other women unguarded in their shining.

  • We each get to be beheld in our own unguarded shining.

It’s wonderfully precious, every single time. And over time, we grow even more confident in our confidence.

There’s a little corner in your bathroom mirror just waiting to send you the message “That confidence looks really nice on you.”

Imagine how that could change your day and change your life.

Love,

Emily
