I didn’t see it coming
I didn’t know what hit me.
There was a loud crunch and jolt. Then I realized I’d just been rear-ended.
The past few days I’ve been dealing with all the things that follow: soothing my body (shocked but no injuries), and arranging care for my car.
While my story is tangible, I know many of us are feeling jolted in other ways. It could be the sudden change in your family life or opening the newspaper.
I’m passionate about us having places to heal from these challenges, big and small.
There is always something.
Last week I was fighting a headache for most of the day. Right before I was about to teach my dance class the headache spiked into nausea. Because dancing is also one of my top remedies for headaches, I kept going.
After class one student asked me how my headache was.
“What headache?” was my reply.
It reminds me of the comments I’ve received from so many students such as this one:
“Even when I am feeling so emotional about all the things happening in my life I can come to class and feel safe and I always leave feeling uplifted. I cherish the joy of being nurtured by the class.”
Fun fact: it turns out that this benefit of dance isn’t just because my classes are so special. A recent study found that dance in almost any form may be more effective than other exercise interventions for improving both mental and cognitive health.
I have another secret weapon: community.
The community of practitioners is revered in qigong as a treasure equal to the teachings and teachers. This week I really felt that when I could send out messages and have friends help me rebalance my energy.
All this boils down to what I hope is part of your life for 2025:
Regular practices to help you discharge any stresses,
Community to help you get back on track when you encounter a big bump,
More capacity to kindle transformation – from improving your health to impacting the community around you.
And if you think it’s time to give your resilience a boost, please check out all that I am offering here.
