One of my favorite miracles

One of my favorite types of miracles is having help appear.

The little coincidences in life buoy me, like the right person appearing with directions.

Some moments stand out with their significance. Twenty years ago, when I was in the hospital, someone I hardly knew brought me an elaborate home cooked meal complete with napkins and pretty dishes.

That meal transformed my outlook on the healing power of food and acts of kindness.

It was a peak moment on a string of powerful experiences that helped free me from the feeling that I was left on my own with the burden of the world on my shoulders.

Maybe you think me calling these kindnesses a miracle is a bit strong. Yes, these are ordinary things, scientifically explainable. But their impact on me is miraculous.

Years later I was supporting my mother-in-law with frequent qigong healings as she lived with ovarian cancer and prepared to transition from this life. She too was powerfully moved by the outpouring of love and support she received from her family and friends.

“Why did I wait so long to receive this?” she said so often.

I’ve come a long way, and yet I feel like there is so much more to discover in how nature and the Universe is there to support me.

That’s why I make it a spiritual practice to recognize and celebrate the way the world is abundantly supporting us.

I end every dance class with the words “We send these gifts into the future in even greater abundance, trusting that we have all that we need.”

It always feels radical to say as a spiritual statement, even as we all face a lot of economic uncertainty.

I need to say it to keep reminding myself and to help myself live into their meaning.

Because when we have confidence that there is help and support for us – that’s so empowering. We can live really courageous, expansive lives.

One more super fun way to practice recognizing the abundant support for us is at the Mid-Summer Celebration. This event is timed for when the plants are at peak bloom and the healing herbs at maximum healing potency.

Wearing these flowers and herbs in crowns and passing through a fabulous healing hoop of these herbs is always a lot of fun. It’s a very joyful celebration of the beauty, nourishment, and healing properties the Earth has offered abundantly to us through plants.

To wear a flower crown is a symbol saying I recognize that I am abundantly supported by nature and with that feel emboldened to joyously serve all of life.

I hope every day you feel like you are wearing that invisible crown.

And I’d love to see you with actual flowers at the Mid-Summer Celebration this July.
