Mid-Summer Healing

I learned so much from the year I showed up to the Mid-Summer Celebration in mourning black.

My father-in-law had suddenly transitioned from this life the day before. My family was reeling. My partner had already left for New York and I would soon follow her.

Yet I wanted to be there.

Mid-Summer is a moment when we affirm the greater rhythms of life. I needed to be held by that bigger story.

I also did not feel like wearing the white color that adds a festive spirit to our gathering.

I did not feel joyful.

And I found again how the dancing circle can hold it all. The traditional songs often have a sort of cry within them that is lament and joy at the same time.

I showed up in my shock and grief and the dancing circle cast a feeling of wholeness over me. This feeling is beyond words; it arises from the physical movement and does not even require knowing the others in the circle.

Mid-Summer, with all the flowers and live music is contagiously joyful.

But Mid-Summer is foremost about healing. It is about the healing potency of the plants in the summer. It’s about syncing with the healing power of summer to nurture our hearts and spirits.

If you need a joyful respite from whatever is burdening your life, Mid-Summer is here for you!

If joy feels very far away, come to Mid-Summer in your truth. Traditional dances have an incredible power to hold and support us through sorrow and uncertainty while still surprising us with joy.

Pre-registration is appreciated.

I can’t wait to see you there,

Love,

emily
