Earth Day Dance Celebration

Cultivate the miracle of spring within

Earth Day with Wisdom Dances

You don’t want to miss out on the spring surge of energy. It’s a chance to clear your heart if it has grown heavy with the burdens of winter. It’s a time to set your intentions for what you wish to cultivate in the seasons to come.

Come, enter into the miracle of spring through dance!

Even if you doubted spring would ever return, it arrives as a gift. As much as you may need and long for spring, the springtime Earth also is grateful for your support. It’s a time to remember that your whole life is in partnership with the Earth, and your gratitude and prayers for the Earth make a difference.

The Earth Day Dance Celebration is an opportunity to:

  • Get outside and celebrate the beauty of spring

  • Pump the surging energy of spring through your body with each pulsing step

  • Dance in honor of the healing power of the land and water

  • Be held in a tradition that can contain the paradox of springtime sorrow and joy.

  • Affirm our relationships to community and future generations

The magic of beautiful songs and musical accompaniment by Greg Herriges will make this an intimate and vital experience.

Enjoy the festive costume worn by core members of the Wisdom Dances community and join in spirit by wearing the colors of black, yellow, or white.

We want to dance with you, dear relative and neighbor!

This celebration is for everybody curious about dancing with and for spring. Inspiration for this event is rooted in women’s traditional dances from the Balkans, Greece, and Asia Minor. This year’s Earth Day Celebration is at a single location to make it easier for friends like you to join with us.

Welcome, especially if you are new to dancing. No experience is necessary to participate in these simple circle dances. Everything will be taught first and the group together helps the dances dance themselves. The dances are very gentle and many people report their aches and pains feel better after dancing. Often we have some in our midst who have a health challenge requiring them to sit for some of the dances and this is still a rich experience for both those sitting and those dancing. We will be dancing on grass. All genders welcome. Please reach out if to let us know how we can accommodate your accessibility needs.

The river is calling you over

Water is integral to Wisdom Dances Earth Day Celebrations because it is essential for new life to come. The river’s flow both heals us and spreads the healing intent of our celebration.

Past celebrations have brought us into many parks and festivals, even homes and hospitals. While the Earth Day Celebration has taken many forms, it’s spirit is always the same: dancing to celebrate and honor how we belong to each other and the Earth.

Lucy has been part of Earth Day Celebration for many years and says:

“The Earth Day Celebration fills me with the feeling that I “bee”long to a “bee”utiful community! Beeing in community cultivates love and care for each other and the earth.”

A person dressed in traditional clothing, including a yellow and black striped headwrap, white long-sleeve shirt, black skirt with yellow trim, and yellow socks, leans over at the edge of a river by a tree, reaching into the water.

Earth Day is an embodied act of love for the earth, our Mother. Just like the river flows through out city, our dancing is the flowing of love in community.
