A way out of the spin

Does this ever happen to you when shocked by something scary?

  • Your head starts spinning and obsessing about all the new information that you want to sort out

  • You breathe less.

  • You stumble or bang into things more.

  • You get less patient (or downright grumpy)

It’s a beautiful thing that our bodies can adapt to emergencies. In crucial moments we do need more power to thick quickly and get out of danger.

If you are like me, sometimes you might also get stuck in that shock response. Pretty soon it can become exhausting, sleepless, and maybe even involve a few injuries.

That’s why it’s so wonderful that there are practices to help us stay balanced even during stress.

My 8 minute video “Qigong for When There is Shocking or Scary News” is my most watched video.

I like 8 minutes. It’s a good length for doing something when you think that you have no time. A lot can shift that quickly.

And sometimes we want a little bit more. That’s why I just created a 30 minute extended version of this practice for calming the body when under sudden stress.
