New Year Reset
January always stirs my longing for a re-set.
Maybe like me you don’t go for New Years’ resolutions anymore. Yet there is something about this season that stirs an instinct in me to clear out, refocus, and refresh in preparation for the year to come.
I thought that this impulse would lead me to some deep house reorganization over the winter break.
Instead, the problem basement room is currently overrun by fabric, trim, fringe, raffia, papier mache, glue, and lots of cardboard. Why? I’m sprinting to prepare costumes for a Winter Procession ….. which is about to re-set the energy in our community for the New Year. So actually, I’m still right on track, even though my re-set this year is looking different than I expected.
The Winter Procession is one of three January events happening to help renew our energy and prepare for the year to come:
Winter Procession as part of Winter Whirl Festival at Springboard for the Arts, January 17.
7 Day Blessing with Spring Forest Qigong and Tibetan Monks – FREE, happening now through Jan 10.
The intimate group of Grandmothers’ Garden late winter session will be focusing on purification and dreaming.
Each of these events work through two interconnected movements:
Releasing what we no longer need – though chanting, movement, breath, or other actions.
Refining and activating what we do want – writing, dreaming, sharing, or otherwise embodying.
These work together like the in and out breath.
Do you prefer one over the other?
Do you get stuck with one more than the other?
They are meant to work together. It’s more difficult to clear out a messy spot in the house if you have no vision for how you want it to be. We might have a million grand ideas, but if we don’t clear out room for them, they cannot grow.
Mastering the art of releasing and dreaming activates MAGIC in our lives. This is the season to find that renewal for your life.
What do you want your New Year reset to feel like?
Big love,
emily
