Sunrise and Springtime

“Thank you, Creator, for waking me up today and giving me this day.”

I frequently hear this prayer when I’m participating in Indigenous-led Nibi (water) Walk ceremonies.

It sounds so simple. You could easily miss the power of this prayer.

Remembering to be grateful for one’s waking breath is wisdom for resilience from Indigenous communities. They have already lived through utter catastrophe and continue to bear many challenges. It could be easy to focus on the bad.

Beginning with gratitude and a sense of abundance in prayer makes all the other prayers flow more easily.

When I was younger, I took each day for granted. “Just” another day seemed rather insignificant. For a few years I even had a hard time welcoming spring because I doubted it could bring life to the dark corners of our world.

I was missing out on healing gifts of sunrise and springtime that are abundantly given to all of us. They are truly balm for the soul.

I invite you to three springtime events to help you live with gratitude and abundance.

Meet me at sunrise. Witnessing the sun emerge over the horizon wakes up our connection to the new energy given to us each day. The sunrise is the essential context for the bi-lingual Meditation on the Altar on the World.

Meet me by the river. Connect with the powerful surge of spring energy through the Wisdom Dances Earth Day Celebration. Through the collective joy of movement and live music, we cultivate spring within us, among us, and beyond us.

Meet me in a deepening circle. Explore grandmother wisdom for both drawing strength from the land, supporting the prosperity of earth and water, and being in relationship to life-giving mystery through the land – coming up in the next session of Grandmothers’ Garden: Healing with the Land.

I’m so glad you are here.
