Breath of Spring

My heart leaps wildly when the lake finally opens up in the spring.

Seeing the water ripple in the breeze, I feel my breath grow stronger.

Did you know that turtles hold their breath all winter? They are down there in the mud under the ice, holding that single breath, gradually dissolving their bones in order to balance the increasing acidic energy in their bodies that would normally be exhaled.

As the last bits of ice melt, sending the coldest water to the bottom of the lake, water from the depths is pushed towards the surface to be oxygenated by the waves. The lake is taking a big spring breath, too.

Recently I guided a group through a process of pausing to take a breath. One person said she had to remind herself that she even had lungs. Another said she was so stressed she had been consciously filling any potential quiet space with media or activity and that our breathing exercise was her first moment of quiet in months.

One client recently described herself as burdened by a heavy stagnancy. Another described to me how her winter felt like being in the underworld.

How much we are all longing for the breath of spring!

It’s interesting to me that one of the first indicators of spring is powered by the breath of bird song. Our landscape sounds like spring before it looks like it.

Connecting with the waking spring energy in nature can help you find spring inside of yourself.

Feed your body and spirit with an effervescent dose of spring at the upcoming Earth Day Celebration with Wisdom Dances.

The pulse of a dancing circle to beautiful music is my favorite way to align deeply with the healing energy of spring. I’d love to see you there!

Love,

emily
