Angels
Sometimes making it to dance class requires cutting through what feels like a cobwebby forest. It’s not unusual for folks to arrive slightly disheveled by the sticky filaments of stresses, both personal and collective.
Some of the first warmup movements we do are about shaking off all the clinging irritants, clearing our space, and calming the body.
Dancing, we begin to pump fresh energy into our bodies and into the room.
After a few dances I invite each person to draw an Angel Card, an oracle card with one word on it, to assist in connecting with the vitality rising up within each person.
Often the word I draw, like “communication” or “simplicity,” gives me some inspiration for how I can face the week ahead.
Yet this exercise is not just personal. Combining the Angels from each person creates a beautiful picture.
Heading into Thanksgiving week, this combined Angel blessing arose from the group:
Celebration
Vision
Abundance
Humor
Love
Expectancy
Freedom
Especially because there is so much to grieve, so much danger, and so much being destroyed right now, these qualities feel precious and wonderful.
Celebration, vision, abundance, humor, love, expectancy, and freedom were coming alive and being embodied in real time in our class. If we can dance it, we can live it, too.
Angel cards also make a special appearance at the Winter Solstice Celebration. I invite you to join us and draw an angel that can be a guiding theme for the year.
What’s most important about the Angel Card practice is that it focuses on what is coming alive. Even in hard times. Even in the dark. Together, let’s pay attention to what’s emerging and help draw the best out of each other.
Love,
emily
